Please join us for a wild mushroom foray in the Huachuca Mountains in Southern Arizona on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Join us for an exploration of the unique mycological diversity found in the Huachuca Mountains as the monsoon rains bring the forest floor to life. The Huachuca Mountains are one of Arizona's southern-most sky island mountain ranges. It includes a number of unique ecosystems that provide for a broad diversity of fungi species in a lesser explored landscape.
This is an opportunity to attend an educational foray in Southern Arizona to learn from Arizona Mushroom Society foray leads Mike Dechter and Brent Ewasiuk. They will be teaching about identifying characteristics and other information of the local fungi encountered during the foray.
To attend this event you must be registered. Those who successfully register will be emailed a registration confirmation with meet-up location details.
Space is limited please only register if you are able to attend the event. We still have other events this year, which will be announced via email and posted on our event calendar.
Please be sure to come to the event prepared for summer monsoon season in the high mountains. You will need hiking boots, sunscreen, food, water, rain gear, and basic first aid supplies. Please be sure to bring a trusty knife and/or garden trowel, and basket or paper bags or baskets for collecting mushrooms.
The monsoon season has been active as of late and it is possible the event is delayed or cancelled due to thunder storms.
Registrants can include one guest. Children under 15 may attend with a registered adult and must be under supervision of their parent(s) at all times. Dogs must be well-behaved and on-leash during the event. This event includes hiking at high elevation, sometimes in areas with heavy downed logs and debris, which can be difficult for children, dogs, and many of us as well!
This event is free to all AMS members who register. If you are the only member of your household signing up for the event, you can sign up one non-AMS guest to attend.
