The Arizona Mushroom Society is excited to announce a mushroom foray designed for elders, people who use mobility supports, and anyone who finds hiking on uneven terrain of a traditional foray difficult or inaccessible.
This foray will focus on trails and flatter, more accessible areas, with no extended hiking required to reach mushroom-hunting locations. Our goal is to make the fun of finding, learning about, and identifying Arizona mushrooms available to more members of our community.

We're going to host an easy access foray on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 9am near Forest Lakes.
Volunteers needed
We're looking for volunteers who are comfortable hiking farther into the forest to forage for mushrooms and bring specimens back for attendees who may not be able to access those areas. This will give everyone an opportunity to see, learn about, and participate in identifying a wider variety of mushrooms.
Dr. Christopher May will accompany the foray, but as a radiologist who has not directly treated patients for many years, he could use a hand from a few volunteers with a more recent hands-on medical background.
If you'd like to volunteer, please contact noxchetcuti@gmail.com. Nox will be coordinating volunteers.
A note about accessibility & safety
While we are making every effort to make this foray more physically accessible, this is still an outdoor activity in a high elevation forest environment, where conditions and terrain can be unpredictable. The Arizona Mushroom Society is not equipped to provide medical care, emergency medical support, or individualized assistance for participants with significant or potentially life-threatening health needs. Participants should consider their own health, mobility, and support needs when deciding whether this event is appropriate for them and bring a support person if needed. All participants attend and participate at their own risk.
There is no charge for this event.
Those who successfully register will receive an email with where and when to meet up.
