Did you know that there are a number different species of fungi that fluoresce under UV light? UV light can react with pigments and compounds in the fungal tissue to re-emit light and make mushrooms glow! This means we can walk around in the dark with UV flashlights to explore glowing mushrooms!!!

We're going to do our first ever Fluorescent Fungi Foray on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 7PM- 9PM in the Flagstaff Area. This will involve walking a few hundred yards after sundown with UV flashlights. It's a really great opportunity for some very cool photos!

There is no charge for this event. It is available for Arizona Mushroom Society members to register until we reach capacity.

Please only register if you are sure you can attend. Spaces are limited and cancellations often mean other people cannot attend.

Registrants can include one guest. Anyone over 15 years old should be registered. This event includes hiking on a high elevation hiking trail and sometimes in areas with heavy downed logs and debris. Dogs may attend and must be well-behaved and on-leash during the entire event. 

Wild mushroom forays are a valuable opportunity to learn about our local fungi, and while edibles may be found, please remember it is not the goal of the foray.
