If you are a beginner, amateur, or expert mycologist, one of the most important tools in your tool bag is the iNaturalist and Mushroom Observer apps.

Join Brent Ewasiuk and Mike Dechter for a zoom meeting to learn about these tools you can use to both better identify local fungi (plants and animals too) and contribute to our scientific knowledge of what mushrooms and fungi can be found in Arizona.

Brent and Mike will be discussing how we use the iNaturalist app to document fungi specimens that can be DNA sequenced and identified through phylogenetic analysis. iNaturalist is a key part of the process to electronically record fungi specimens that are found (by anyone) and then submitted for DNA sequencing. If you want to be part of that process or see the results of several years of hard work by AMS program lead Terri Clements, there is no better way than to join us for this zoom meeting.

In addition, this presentation will share how you can see the results of years of the Arizona Mushroom Society DNA sequencing program. This includes showing how you can easily explore the DNA test results on iNaturalist and Mushroom Observer. You'll see that it is quite easy to learn the current state of our knowledge on local wild fungi!

We want to encourage all Arizona Mushroom Society members to learn and use iNaturalist to help us learn more about the fungi in our area. Please join us on this free presentation!
