Join us for an online Zoom presentation on WednesdayApril 9th at 6:30 pm on Ancestral Southwestern Native American Use of Fungi.

It is well known that Native Americans have developed and an encyclopedic knowledge of local plants for use as food or medicine, but what about fungi? Some have suggested that ancestral Native Americans in the southwest were mycophobic, or believed that fungi were unhealthy, taboo, and should be avoided. However, recent research has revealed new evidence that suggests not all fungi was avoided and that some may have been used strategically as an important part of surviving and thriving in the desert southwest.

Fungi enthusiast and Arizona Mushroom Society Executive Director, Mike Dechter, will be sharing the story of how people 1,000 years ago used local fungi.

Join us to learn more about this fascinating story of fungi history! This event is free and accessible via Zoom on Wednesday, April 9th at 6:30pm
