Registration Now Open

There is nothing more wonderful than spending some time in the sky islands of southern Arizona during monsoon season. We hope to take advantage of that fact by leading a Friday evening and Saturday morning foray for fungi August 26-27, 2022 in the sky islands outside of Safford, AZ.

We will be offering small group foray opportunities on Friday evening and Saturday morning of the August 26-27th weekend. 

We will be leading two small foray groups: one on Friday, August 26th at 1:00pm and another on Saturday, August 27th at 9am at Mt. Graham in the Pinaleno Mountains. Mt. Graham is an approximate 4 hour drive from Phoenix.

You must register to attend this event. Registrants must be AMS members and can include one guest, which may include someone that is part of your membership bundle or a non-member. Please do not register for both of the forays so that as many people as possible get an opportunity to attend a foray.  If you are unable to register, it is likely because the event is full and you can join the waitlist.

Those registered will need to meet at the specified foray time and location. Details on meet-up location will be sent to registered participants once you are registered.

There is no cost for this event.

This event includes hiking at high elevation, sometimes in areas with heavy downed logs and debris, which can be difficult for mushroom hunters of all ages. The foray groups will be traveling from the meet-up location to hunt for wild mushrooms, so you must be able to be at the meet-up location at the specified time.

Summer forays are a valuable opportunity to learn about our local mycoflora, and while edibles are likely to be found, it is not the goal of the foray. If you are interested in learning about local mushrooms, and are available for this event, considering joining us.

Our educational forays are limited in size and fill up fast. Please make sure you are available to attend this foray before registering. More opportunities may be available in the waning weeks of the monsoon season. If so,  information on future events will be available on the Events page on the AMS website. Additional snap forays could occur given good conditions and foray leader availability.

The monsoon season has been especially active this year and it is possible the event is delayed or cancelled due to thunder storms. 

Dogs and children are welcome and must be under their parent's supervision at all times. Dogs must be on a leash during the entire foray. Children 15 or under are welcome to come with a registered adult.
