DIY Grow Your Own Mushrooms Class over Zoom!!!

Have you ever wanted to grow your own gourmet edible mushrooms, but didn't know where to start or thought it would require too much equipment? Well, here is your chance to make it happen even if you have zero experience!

The Arizona Mushroom Society is offering a class to walk you through each and every step of purchasing and assembling oyster mushroom grow bags so you can grow your own.

Here's how it works:

1. Register for the class (capacity of 100 registrants).

2. Order the mushroom growing materials. We send you links and information about easily accessible supplies that will be used. Please make sure to pay close attention as to what to buy.

3. We join together for a Zoom meeting on March 31st at 6pm. The meeting will be led by Chad Borseth with help from Ray Younghans. They will walk you through the process of assembling the grow bags and share basic fruiting instructions. Chad will also be sharing information about tissue transfer and grain spawn transfer.

This class uses the non-sterile method, which has proven very effective for growing oyster mushrooms on pelletized newspaper and guinea pig or rabbit food (yes, these are the actual supplies used for the substrate). It is non-sterile, so your substrate will not need to be sanitized or otherwise treated prior to inoculation. The non-sterile method works very well with more aggresive strains, particularly Pleurotus species such as pearl or phoenix oysters.

Since you will be buying your own substrate and inoculant, the class will be free. You will be responsible for purchasing the kitty litter, rabbit or guinea pig food, and spawn/inoculant on your own. Estimated cost for these is about 20-50 dollars. You will undoubtedly have enough substrate and spawn to create additional grow bags after the class. 

A recording of the Zoom meeting will be available for any registrants after the class.
