EVENT: 2019 Morel Foray #3
DATE: Wednesday, May 8, 2019
DESTINATION: Mogollon Rim area
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY:
- Please register yourself as the "Foray Registrant", then add a Guest registration for every adult in your household who is coming on the foray. They each need to consent to the Terms of Use & Liability Waiver.
- Please make sure that the names of any minor children you are bringing appear in the "Children" field on your registration form.
- Please arrive with a full tank of gas, water, and lunch.
MEETING PLACE: Mustang Gas Station, Clint's Well/Happy Jack, AZ. Milepost 290 on AZ-87.
MEETING TIME: 9:00 AM
MYCOLOGY SKILL LEVEL: Any
THEME: Fire Morel harvest; only limited instruction. You should take a moment to learn the difference between true and false morels if you've never hunted them before.
PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL: Moderate. You should be able to walk 2 miles on uneven ground at 7000 feet of elevation.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: Accessible to most passenger cars, although low-slung vehicles like sports cars and Priuses may have difficulty. *** UPDATE: The winter has been hard on the Rim Road. There are multiple places where low-clearance vehicles will certainly scrape the ground, and a few where it may be quite difficult to cross, especially for inexperienced or timid drivers. You should try very hard to carpool with someone in a high clearance vehicle when you get to the meeting point, or better yet beforehand.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: We suggest you bring a basket, soft brush, knife, emergency whistle, cell phone, lunch, snacks, and water. Keep in mind that we will be on a burn site, and your shoes and clothes will become sooty and muddy.
EXPECTED WEATHER: Rain showers and potential thunderstorms. Highs in the 50's.
LODGING: Payson, Pine, Strawberry, and Mormon Lake have hotels.
ALTERNATE DESTINATION: Sedona area. (Check your emails on Tuesday evening by 6:00 pm, in case plans have changed.)
FORAY CAPTAIN: Terri Clements, pinonbistro@msn.com, 928-300-5850, Graphite Toyota 4 Runner, Lic. AMP1488
As always, it is possible that no morels or few morels will be found, and you must be prepared for this possible disappointment. It is also possible that high winds, significant snowfall, flooding, thunderstorms, or other unforeseen circumstances may require a foray to be cancelled or brought to an early end.
